Isatis root, also known as big indigo root, is divided into northern isatis root and southern isatis root. The northern isatis root are derived from the roots of the cruciferous plants Isatis tinctoria L. and Isatis indigotica Fort.; the southern isatis root are derived from the rhizomes and roots of the cruciferous plant Baphicacanthus cusia (Nees) Brem.
The active components of Isatis root include Indoxyl-β-glucoside, Isatin, Indigo, Isatan B, Uridine, Uracil, Hypoxanthine, Salicylic acid, Qingdainone, Daucosterol, β-Sitosterol, isatidyl ethyl, propyl and butyl, plant protein, resin, sugar, glucosinolate, a variety of amino acids and trace elements, etc.
