Mulberry leaves have the effects of regulating blood sugar, dispersing wind-heat, clearing the lungs and moistening dryness, clearing the liver and improving eyesight. They are used for symptoms such as wind-heat colds, lung heat coughs, headaches and dizziness, red eyes and blurred vision.
Function:
Regulate blood sugar, dispel wind-heat, clear lungs and moisten dryness, clear liver and improve eyesight. Used for wind-heat cold, lung-heat cough, headache, dizziness, red eyes and dizziness, etc.
The hypoglycemic effect of mulberry leaves is achieved in two ways: first, the alkaloid DNJ (1-deoxynojirimycin) inhibits the activity of disaccharide degrading enzymes, thereby inhibiting the absorption of disaccharides by the small intestine and reducing the peak of blood sugar after eating (Kimura, 1995); second, the mulberry leaf alkaloid fagomine and mulberry leaf polysaccharides are used to promote the secretion of β cells, promote the cell's utilization of sugar, improve the synthesis of liver glycogen and sugar metabolism, and finally achieve the effect of lowering blood sugar.
Polyhydroxynorhydamine isolated from mulberry leaves has a strong glycosidase inhibitory effect (Asano et al., 1994); N-Me-DNJ, GAL-DNJ and fagomine can significantly reduce blood sugar levels, among which GAL-DNJ and fagomine have the strongest hypoglycemic effect.
